A globe-trotting divine justice saga. The story starts in 7000 BC and moves to 2027 using time travel. Rudra (Mahesh Babu) fights to save the world from a powerful evil mastermind. Time travel logic is deeply rooted in Indian culture. The title Varanasi reflects the deep cultural roots.

Varanasi Movie Shooting and Preparation

As of November 2025, about 110 days of shooting was completed. Mahesh Babu trained for 1 year, including 6 months just for running style. He also trained for posture and body language to play Lord Rama. Mahesh plays both a modern character (Rudra) and Rama in the film. Shooting happened in real wild locations like Masai Mara.

Varanasi Movie Villain and Characters

Kumbha (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is physically weak but mentally very powerful. The villain is locked to a thought-controlled chair. Priyanka Chopra plays a thief who is both strong and vulnerable. All characters are grey, not purely good or bad. A significant father–son emotional track drives the plot.

Varanasi Movie Production and Technology

No AI was used; everything was crafted by VFX artists. One teaser alone took a full year of VFX work to complete. SS Rajamouli most ambitious project to date. IMAX release planned. Strict secrecy with phones strictly prohibited on set.
